What does it mean that the protein is hydrolyzed? Peptide bonds are broken down by protease enzymes (enzymes breaking down proteines) into the amino acids with long chain – so called polypeptides. This is the process of enzymatic hydrolysis – pre-digestion. Its product is for the body perfectly utilizable protein in the form of peptides: oligopeptides (more than 12 amino acids), dipeptides (2 amino acids), tripeptides (3 amino acids), tetrapeptides (4 amino acids), pentapeptides (5 amino acids) and so on.
